Goddess Braids Made Easy | Braiding Method, Curls & Afro Hair Blending Tips

In today’s video, I’m creating a beautiful set of Goddess Braids using a blend of Color 8 and Color 27 for the braids, and Color 27 for the curls. My client requested soft curls left out in between the braids, giving that signature effortless goddess look. This style is perfect if you love neat braids with a touch of glam and movement.

My client has a very sensitive scalp, so she didn’t want any product applied directly to it. To respect that, I avoid using gel on her scalp and focus on creating clean, neat partings before braiding. You may notice gel on my hands—that’s because I only use it to blend her afro hair into the extensions for a smooth finish, without touching the scalp.

For anyone learning how to braid or struggling with attaching extensions to natural hair, this video includes a slow, step-by-step demonstration. I show how to part the hair into three sections, prepare the extensions, attach them properly, and keep adding pieces if you want longer braids.

I also demonstrate how to add curls securely. After inserting the curl, braid two or three times to lock it in so it doesn’t slip out when brushed or touched. At the top of the head, I attach the curls at the base so they’re more visible and create a fuller look.

Throughout the process, I only use gel on my hands to blend her natural afro hair into the extensions, giving the braids a clean, polished finish—perfect for kinky and textured hair—while keeping the scalp product-free.

Once the braids are done, I move on to taming the curls. With a good hair mousse, I separate the curls, smooth the braids with a dryer, curl the ends, and dip them in hot water. I use curly perm rods to shape the ends and gently work through each curl to remove frizz. It takes time, but the final result is worth it.

Since frizz is common with goddess braids, I always complete this step while the client is in my chair to help the curls last longer. For maintenance, I advise using mousse whenever the curls start to look frizzy to bring them back to life.
