There are two key approaches to prostate biopsy — transrectal and transperineal.
The transrectal approach passes the biopsy needle through the rectal wall, while the transperineal guides the needle directly through the skin between the rectum and scrotum into the prostate.
Studies show the transperineal biopsy carries a lower risk of infection and bleeding, making it the safer choice for most patients.
