This video shows the modulation characteristics of a Flex 5000A running 10 watts of carrier in the AM mode. The carrier setting in PowerSDR is set to 50% to allow the Flex to develop asymmetry with greater positive peaks than negative peaks. This results in a high modulation average with peaks that reach as high as 150% in the positive direction without reaching the baseline in the negative direction. Note that changes Flex made in PowerSDR version 2.3.5 require a much different setting in the AM Carrier Level setting. The audio in this video was received on a Kenwood TS-590 with a bandwidth setting of 10kc. The oscilloscope is a Tektronix Model 485 coupled to the RF output of the Flex with an inline coaxial RF sampler.
The received audio from the Kenwood TS-590 was ported directly into Adobe Audition through the USB audio interface of the radio where it was synched to the AVI file with video editing software.
