Recent research by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue found that major AI chatbots had cited Russian state-backed propaganda outlets, including sources banned in the EU, alongside trusted media. The more a question echoed pro-Russian talking points, the more likely chatbots were to reference propaganda.
As chatbots summarize information rather than show sources upfront, propaganda and credible reporting can be blended and presented as neutral facts.
