Описание: This RE-45 console radio, built by Victor Talking Machine in 1929 before takeover by RCA, was an instant hit at the beginning of the great depression and is a beautiful and highly collectible commodity today. The 4 parts tuner, amplifier, speaker and Electrola record player are often used without any cabinet, because they display so well. The Tuned Radio Frequency or TRF Tuner is encapsulated with steel and sports a 6" embossed Nipper logo on top. Watch the microsynchronous tuning. The 15 Watt transformer-coupled push-pull monobloc amplifier is very hard to find in working condition, and loved by guitar afficionados. The Rice-Kellogg type 9" field coil speaker too is top quality. The Electrola 78 rpm electric phonograph was way ahead of its time and originally had a brush-less induction motor and an early magnetic pickup. You will watch here the rare event of a 1929 radio-phono set playing 33 rpm vinyl records, invented two decades later. In September 1931 RCA tried not very successfully to introduce its program transcription technology used in radio studios before, into peoples homes. Program transcription records run at 33 rpm, and originally required RCA's expensive dual-speed turntables. In 1932 they finally offered a governor-less synchronous motor equipped with a planetary speed reduction gear and clutch, permitting of turntable speeds of both 78 and 33 rpm. Still the tonearm and pickup were the same heavy equipment as before, which had caused RCA's early 33 rpm adventure to flop. I had found a Canada-only extremely rare model RE-46, that had such an extremely rare dual record player, and transplanted it to the RE-45. I successfully modified the Electrola tonearm plus pickup to play also modern 33 rpm vinyl records - and this without changing the original look of it. I changed the 1 pound counterweight to a small spring and exchanged the 200 gram horseshoe magnetic pickup against a dual-needle ceramic cartridge. The needle pressure now is reduced to about 8 grams. I can now play 78's, including 1950's microgroove 78's, program transcriptions, and modern 33 rpm vinyl records as you see.
