My experience using the Merrell Vapor Glove 4 barefoot style running shoe. What the transition felt like, from fairly standard cushioned running shoes to barefoot shoes.
These are zero drop zero cushioning minimal running shoes for that barefoot running experience with protection under foot. They have an excellent Vibram outsole which is very grippy and stable on dry ground and grass, but not on very muddy ground where the lack of lugs do not grip, and deeper grip would work best. Ground feel is fantastic and the feet work to propel you forward, in a good way. The traction provided is really good, beyond expectation by a long way.
They have great lockdown across the the midfoot with the laces going along way down the shoe. The laces also have some stretch to them so pulling them tight still feels extremely comfortable to give a very secure sock-like fit.
The Vapor Gloves are very light at around 153 grams (5.4oz) which helps make them really unobtrusive and like in extension of the foot, rather than having character of a particular running shoe, like different stack heights, different amounts of stability etc.
Have you tried barefoot running shoes? How were they?
