Badami fort is built on a hill overlooking the town of Badami.
Badami fort is strategically positioned to provide a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, including the Agastya lake and the ancient temples of Badami.
this fort was built by chalukyas in the 6th century.
Badami served as the capital of the chalukyan dynasty in the 6th century and this fort played a crucial role in their defenses and administration.
Badami fort is now part of the UNESCO world heritage site
the entrance to the Badami fort is free of cost.
the fort is open from sunrise to sunset, allowing visitors ample time to explore the fort.
the construction of the fort showcases the rock-cut architecture of the chalukyas.
the fortifications are carved into the rocky hills.
within the fort complex, there are several temples dedicated to various gods, including lord shiva and lord Vishnu.
these temples are adorned with detailed carvings and inscriptions, showcasing the religious significance of this site.
the fort also has ancient water tanks that were used for storing water during the chalukyas time.
visitors can trek all the way up to the top of the fort, which offers a panoramic view of the entire town of badami along with the surrounding hills.
the trek is moderately challenging but can be done by most visitors.

this fort faced destruction in 642 ad during an invasion by the pallavas.
later, under the rule of tipu sultan, the fort was rebuilt, and several structures were added to enhance its defenses.
following the defeat of tipu sultan in the fourth anglo-mysore war,the britishers took control of the badami region.
there are no palaces or houses within the fort, suggesting it primarily served as a defensive structure rather than a residential one.
the fort includes dome-shaped stone structures that served as storage rooms for arms and ammunition.
one should spend atleast 2-3 hours going around this fort to clearly understand the history and also to cherish the top view of the entire badami town.
