YES.. !! you can change the oil with the AXP plate still mounted.
the plate is flexible enough to wedge a screw driver or wrench and give it a little tweak to get the filters past.
I cant say that all will have the same spacing issues because these plates have a little tolerence in the manufacturing as well as any bending or flexxing your bike may have experienced.
