Outside his adopted country France the name Théophile Steinlen doesn't mean an awful lot to most people. He's certainly far less well remembered than his contemporary Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, even though at the time he was just as admired, if not more so.
I can think of nobody who captured Parisian life, from the frivolous through to the heartbreaking, in the late 19th and early 20th century better than Steinlen, and I hope this video goes some way towards bringing his exceptional body of work to a much wider audience.
