James Jennion underlined the complexity and importance of the region, as well as its close historical links with the UK. He also highlighted the many challenges faced by the region, including the lack of democracy and the growing trend of serious human rights abuses, particularly in China, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
