Today, in our sports encyclopedia series we will talk about how to play Horde Chess.
Horde Chess is a variation of chess that is played between two players with a few interesting changes.
Set the white pieces normally and place black pawns in all except the middle two columns of the first row, all columns of the next three rows, and the middle two columns of the fifth row.
In this game, the basic objective of the white side is to capture all the black pawns and the objective of the black pawns is to checkmate the opponent’s king.
The game begins and the first move is made by the white side.
The initial two-step move option can only be played by white and black pawns which are in the second and seventh row if the path is free.
En Passant is allowed like regular chess.
If a black pawn moves to the farthest row, it can be promoted to any piece.
If the black side is unable to make any further moves then the game results in a stalemate.
There is another variation of Horde Chess that can be played.
In this variation of the game, white pawns on the first and second row can execute the initial two-step move option even if it is not the first move being played by that pawn.
The white side wins by capturing all the black pawns.
The black side wins if it manages to checkmate their opponent’s king first.
