Manhunt in Antioch, pursuit of Central Valley homicide suspect.
Statement from Lieutenant John Fortner.
The Antioch Police Department issued a social media alert around 5:10 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024, urging residents in the vicinity of Gentrytown Drive and Putnam Street in Antioch, CA, to take shelter as they searched for a 28-year-old fugitive. The suspect, identified as Carlos Palacios, was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting earlier that year in the Central Valley. The lockdown, which began just before 2 p.m. and lasted until shortly after 5 p.m., was triggered by Palacios' presence in the area.
The fatal shooting occurred around 8:40 p.m. on March 18, 2024, at East Market and South East streets in Stockton, according to the Stockton Police Department. The victim, a 40-year-old man, was found with at least one gunshot wound and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Detectives had obtained a warrant for Palacios' arrest, and he was subsequently apprehended on Monday in Antioch after Police conducted a yard to yard search. The motive for the shooting was not disclosed by the police.
