Why Iceland Rejected the EU - Again

Описание: Iceland has voted against restarting EU membership talks - 52.5% to 47.5%, one of the closest referendum results in the country's history.

PM Kristrún Frostadóttir's government revived the EU question citing a "more volatile" world, then fast-tracked the vote after Donald Trump repeatedly brought up Greenland. But voters weren't swayed: fishing sovereignty and the króna outweighed promises of lower inflation inside the euro.

This is the second time Iceland has rejected EU accession talks, after the first round collapsed in 2015. Iceland stays in the EEA and Schengen - just not in the EU itself. The question is now frozen for at least two more years.
