Ever since the Sansui CD-a607i was gifted to me by Cliff, I really wanted to use it as my main CD player - but the fact that it was a Japanese 100V model put me off. I don't like bulky step-down transformers and so I searched for another solution. It came in the form of a bucking transformer - installing a second transformer inside the chassis to subtract the excess voltage before it reaches the main transformer. I'd never tried it before and it seemed a little risky, but the potential reward made it worthwhile.
