-Alleppy/Alappuzha is know as the ‘Venice of the East’.

-Officially called Alappuzha, Alleppey is known for its network of canals and lagoons with beautiful backwaters and the houseboats offering overnight stays. Located in the southern part of Kerala, the coastline of Alleppey offers some of the best beaches with water sports during the dry season.

-Alleppey’s main beach is 2km west of the city centre and the sunsets are amazing.

-There is one more beach called Marari Beach which is even more beautiful but it is 11 kms away from main town . You can prefer to stay here if you want no crowd.

Details of Backwater, stay and boats

-Shikara Ride was 1400 for me (for 2 hours )after bargain. Generally they give a ride of 3 hours . And a pre booking before few hours is recommended.

-General Route in backwater :
Pick up from Boat Jetty and proceed to the World-famous Snake Boat Race Starting point, Nehru pavilion, Punnamada Lake, Azhikkal village, Azhikkal Canal, you can see Kavungal Temple on the way, Vembanad lake, Vilakkumaram Canal, Lake palace Resort view, and take you back to Jetty.

My hotel name is ‘Chaandhini Lake View’ which is just at Nehru Trophy Starting point . The lake is Punnamada Lake. This place/locality is best for stay if you want backwater view .

-Plenty of houseboats are available for stay and day tour and charge accordingly. You can book them online too. But it is recommended to stay in a boat with good quality and reviews. Most of the house boats are not maintained properly. The booking starts at 5000 per night and can increase upto even 25000 according to the quality.

-The house boats withing 10000 INR range generally start AC in boats after 9 PM and switch off at 6 AM.

-Other places : Lighthouse Museum, Sree Krishna Temple, St Andrews Basilica.
