The disgraced Paralympian wiped his eyes as he was handed a five-year prison term after the judge ruled that a non-custodial sentence would send the 'wrong message to the community'. Miss Steenkamp's mother, June, smiled as she told of a sense of 'closure' after the seventh-month trial, but said the sentence 'would not magic Reeva back’. As he was led down to the holding cells (top), Pistorius took off his watch and handed it to his uncle Arnold (bottom left) for safekeeping. During his murder trial, the court had heard how an expensive watch had been stolen from a display case in his bedroom while crime scene officers were gathering forensic evidence nearby.
