Today’s meal was a ¥1190 (about $8) seafood donburi
at a small restaurant in an Osaka office district.
After a long phone call from a client around noon,
I finally sat down for a late lunch at 1:10 PM.
By then, the restaurant was almost empty —
a rare, calm moment in the middle of a workday.
Salmon, tuna, sea bream, shirasu, and ikura,
served over a generous portion of rice.
Large rice was free…
and they truly meant large.
As I ate, I found myself remembering
the time I once grew rice during my university days.
It reminded me how much effort goes into a single bowl.
