The first chamber, The Under World, opens with one of the most striking scenes in the episode’s memoirs. Glass cylinders break, and Bludge emerges beside an R Hopper, immediately announcing that this is no longer a conventional hideout but a laboratory where hybrids and specimens have become part of the battlefield. The scene ends with Tyrog 2 and hunters, an excellent reminder that this final episode gathers the stage’s earlier horrors into one relentless arc.

The Underground section changes the rhythm without reducing the danger. Here the route feels more industrial and deliberate, with doors opening into fresh enemies and exhaust pipes turning the environment itself into a hazard. This calmer structure works as a midpoint in the mission, but it also rewards diligent attention to the minutiae, especially when knife attacks come from both sides.

The Cave then broadens the episode into a rougher and more natural underworld, where the sub-boss gauntlet in the Cave is one of the stage’s most memorable tableaux. Walther brings frontal authority and direct pressure, while Lash T. controls distance with his long mace, creating a rival pairing that demands both closeness and caution. After that, the remaining hunters and knife foes feel like the final gate before the zenith of the episode.

Fessenden boss showdownㅡthen comes Dr. Fessenden himself, the mastermind whose experiments have shaped the game’s darkest lore. His first mutation resembles the earlier Morgue encounter, but this time he stands alone, stripped of supporting chaos and forced into a cleaner duel. The second transformation is the true epic finale: a larger multi-headed monster with immense stamina, heavier presence, and a far more oppressive silhouette. Mustapha still excels with his ability to strike without lingering too long in front of danger.

Deep Deep Down closes the adventure with remarkable clarity. The Under World exposes the doctor’s hidden experiments, the Underground tests discipline, the Cave hardens the descent, and Fessenden’s transformations bring the whole legacy of the journey to its final reckoning. A fusion of bio-lab dread, underground aesthetics, and fast, satisfying combat led by the character who most naturally masters it.

In Japan, Game Machine listed the game on their June 1993 issues as one of the most-popular arcade games for the previous two weeks, outperforming titles such as Warriors of Fate.
