First generation Iranian reveals brutal shoot to kill orders amid violent protests

First-generation Iranian and senior political reporter at the Daily Mail, Elina Shirazi, joined The National News Desk to discuss what it is like to live under the oppressive regime in Iran from firsthand accounts she's heard.
From what little she's hearing from friends and family due to the internet blackout, Shirazi described a chilling scene.
The current orders so far that I'm hearing from on the ground from the government are three words shoot to kill. And they're charging families for the bullet if they want the body back of their loved ones," Shirazi said.
So it's heartbreaking. And a lot of the Iranians that I've been able to speak with, despite this, a country wide blackout who have been able to connect to internet for just a few moments and then disappear. Iranians telling me that they open their doors now to the smell of tear gas and gunpowder. Some I've spoken with have had their family members go missing.
Although companies such as Elon Musk's Starlink tried to get internet to Iranian's, Shirazi said she heard stories of people getting their satellites stolen. On top of that, they fear their phones will be tapped as the government continues to censor information.
Shirazi drew parallels between the protests and the 1979 Iranian revolution.
"It's a similar kind of setup. There are a lot of people on the streets protesting for their rights, but it's quite different now in a sense, where we have seen Iranians really just reject the government as a whole," Shirazi said.
