Stefan Hill, Portfolio Leader – High Value Biorefineries at Scion, gives advice to innovators who are seeking funding for their projects from the Bioresource Processing Alliance (BPA).
Scion is one of four R&D partners in the BPA alliance, along with Plant & Food Research, AgResearch and Callaghan Innovation.
Stefan says it’s important to start with a conversation centred around the science of the project, and what the associated needs are. Forming personal relationships are also key – having a good experience with people you enjoy working with is all part of a successful venture.
Everyone needs to agree up front what the expected outcomes – and risks – of the project are, and accept that at the end of the day, the science might just not fly.
