"タイカイサポートで野良限定サモラン大会「第22回オジイチャン杯」やるぞ!【スプラトゥーン3/サーモンランNW】"
I entered a tournament hosted by @soyblaster130It is organised via the NSO app. It was a Freelance tournament. So you sign up individually and play Freelance as usual except you are against other players in trying to get the highest score. You get more overall points for higher scoring games and for having King fights. It is heavily RNG based, I know, it isn't for everybody, there are a lot of elements that can work in your favour or work against you.
I finished 3rd! There were over 150+ players.
A few of things worth mentioning:
The game will not pair you with other players who are in the tournament. I think this is the most common question I get asked, you will not run into anybody else. The tournament manager room that you go into does this for you. It also tries to change your lobby every game, so you can't "stick" with good players, however you do see some of the same lobbies because there is simply not many people playing.
You don't have to do anything other than sign up and play Freelance. The app and game does everything for you. Records all your scores and stats and gives you the rank at the end of the tournament (which can vary - different lengths or certain amount of matches). The result is the thumbnail.
I went into the tournament at EVP 999 and made sure the King metre was half full - this means my matches will always be at HLM and that I will likely find a King a bit quicker. HLM games give you a better chance of finding players who are good at the game. Playing tournaments at less than HLM can be risky. The downside to HLM matchmaking is that it took me longer to find games - everybody in the top 5 had 13 games, I had 12. There are simply less players in the west.
There are a couple of games where we have insane waves - ggs to the players I met! A mix of good RNG for the wave types with weapons and lluck running into skilled players. About 40 mins in, there is a W2 where we get 109 eggs.
Lastly, I do not speak or understand Japanese lmao. So I kinda signed up to this tournament on a whim and just decided to play. I have no idea about what anybody else did. I may be one of only a handful of non-JP players who signed up. Freelance is the same everywhere :)
I've left comments on for this video if anybody has any questions, I am happy to answer them :)
