If your ex is ignoring, or even if your ex refuses to talk to you at all, then it can be a very confusing and even frustrating experience.

But if you understand what your ex is thinking then you’ll be able to know why your ex is pulling back emotionally, or even flat out ignoring you.

And the hidden emotional cue driving this behavior is a distrust of your intentions.

That is to say, that your ex doesn’t trust that you really understand them or that you have their best interests in mind.

They think that you just want to be in contact with them because you want to get back together again.

And that’s all fine and good, but if the getting back together comes at the expense of understanding where your ex is at, emotionally, the frustration that they have that led to the breakup, or that you don’t even care about their emotional world… Then your ex is going to be very hesitant to interacting with you.

And as long as they are in this emotional place, they will have a very strong urge to ignore you, wall you out, and keep their distance from you.

So, what are you supposed to do?

The key is to start by acknowledging your ex and their current emotional state. If you continue to deny the way that they feel, then they will continue to think that you simply do not understand where they are at emotionally, and they will continue to ignore you and wall you out.

So, you need to start by meeting your ex where they are at emotionally. Let them know that you understand their motives for breaking up with you. Give them a good reason to want to interact with you again. In other words, validate their feelings.

It doesn’t mean that your experience is wrong. It just means that you have to acknowledge their experience too.
