We always look forward to the very first brocante of the year, and Eymet has become something of a tradition for us — a long winter gap, beautiful finds, and usually a lovely lunch to finish the day.

Last year, it was freezing but idyllic. Blue skies, calm streets, and vendors proudly displaying their wares. This year? Nature had other ideas. Rain, wind, and more rain — so strong that stalls were literally lifting and we found ourselves holding them down rather than browsing. It definitely wasn’t for the faint-hearted, and our visit was cut short as the weather took control.

But even on days like this, brocantes have a habit of surprising you.

Despite the chaos, we came away with one fascinating find — a Belle Époque Art Nouveau travel book dating to around 1900, filled with exquisite original illustrations and tied to the golden age of luxury travel and champagne culture. Picked up for just €20, it turned out to be far more significant (and valuable) than we ever expected — the kind of discovery that reminds us why we keep turning up, no matter the weather.

Wind, rain, history, and a very unexpected treasure — even when the elements fight back, days like this never truly disappoint.
