It's beginning to look a lot like Krampus.
The demonic creature said to be the evil twin of Saint Nicholas, taking over Southtown Thursday with a parade.
San Antonio's very first Krampus parade brought out many children and adults to the King William neighborhood.
The tradition has been growing in popularity throughout parts of the U.S, but it's a first in San Antonio.
And it didn't come without a little controversy.
“I want to see the different costumes, and it's the first time that it’s been here, and I want to see what it’s all about. I've never seen it before, so I want to bring my grandkids out here.” said Terry Longoria.
The spirit of Krampus accompanies Saint Nicholas but instead of gifts to good children. On the other hand, Krampus terrorizes children who have been bad.
“I don't see anything wrong with it. There's the Grinch. Come on, he's scary. So, we'll see how this goes with us,” she said.
For Terry and her daughter LeAnn Longoria, this was a family outing. They don't believe it was frightening for children.
“I think it's amazing. It's, you know, the first experience. Because this is from across, you know, the country, I believe, and just something different,” said LeAnn Longoria.
The parade was not merry and bright for all. Last week, San Antonio's Catholic Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller expressed concern that Krampus could cause stress for children -- as did the pastor of S-A impact ministries and the San Antonio Family Association who said the parade promoted evil through the scaring of children with threats of dragging them to hell.
“I do believe the intention of this parade is to bring darkness, and it's cloaked in the disguise of frivolity and festivity and everything, and it stands against the truth,” said Debbie Rule, a Christian.
Erica Aguilar and Debbie Rule, both Christians don't believe the parade was fit for children.
“We have to protect our children. This demonic agenda is aimed at our children, to instill fear and to threaten them in condemnation and saying that if you're bad, that you're going to go to hell and there's a better way,” said Aguilar.
“I do believe that the majority of San Antonio is is of the belief that we shouldn't celebrate demonic creatures, and we shouldn't celebrate the condemnation of children," she added.
