30 years after the Mount Lyell Railway in Tasmania was dismantled, it was rebuilt as a tourist railway.
What makes it special is that of the journey involves tackling gradients of up to 1 in 16, which is too much for a conventional locomotive to operate. However by using an Abt rack and pinion system whereby a large cog under the locomotive connects with a central rack between the rails this is possible.
Ride engine number 1 with the engine crew on the section between Queenstown and Dubbil Barril.
