I post Amets Gaiztoen Liburua to mark the Galvorn Records cassette release, which though sold out, is still a good reason for me to share this lo-fi release of epic dungeon synth and black metal, and remind myself of the intensely awesome set at Albion Dungeon Fest!

Alfred Kubin - The Swamp, 1903

March’s DS Sunday banners feature the work of Alfred Kubin (1877–1959). In Kubin’s output, evil’s aesthetic reveals itself as a counterpart to that of the idyllic, of deliberate disregard for a hideous reality. Categorized as a Symbolist and Expressionist, labelled “degenerate” by the Nazis, virtually unknown to contemporary audiences, he unearthed visions more haunting than the more recognized Symbolists (Odilon Redon or Gustave Moreau), and was a deeply probing Surrealist decades before the term was conceived.
