Can a temporary building become permanent?
The modular classroom unit at Little Waltham Primary School was factory manufactured by Elite Systems, fitted out and delivered to site and positioned into place in an extremely restricted location, in just one day.
Following significant housing development, pupil numbers had increased to the point that the classroom was needed long-term. The school applied to Essex County Council for planning permission to retain the classroom permanently. The council required a more sympathetic external finish to ensure that the building was in keeping with the surrounding landscape. External timber cladding was proposed and accepted and Elite Systems undertook the cladding on site as returning the building to the factory for cladding, would have been time consuming and expensive due to the extremely restricted location.
