In this episode of Path of the Dhamma, we reflect on Dhammapada Verse 3, where the Buddha speaks directly to a deeply human experience — holding on to pain.
The Buddha describes a mind that keeps repeating:
“He hurt me.
He insulted me.
He defeated me.
He took from me.”
And then he offers a clear truth:
As long as these thoughts are held onto, hatred does not end.
This teaching does not deny pain or injustice.
Instead, it reveals how suffering continues when the mind replays hurt again and again.
In this reflection, we explore:
Why remembering harm can keep pain alive
How resentment silently prolongs suffering
The difference between acknowledging pain and clinging to it
Why hatred can never bring true relief or healing
This verse invites us to look honestly at our own minds and ask:
What pain am I still carrying?
What stories am I replaying?
This teaching prepares the way for the next verse, where the Buddha shows how hatred finally comes to an end.
