In this episode, host Rex Lutz, DO, welcomes Joseph N. Daniel, DO, FAAOS, director of the Residency Program of Orthopaedic Surgery at Jefferson Health New Jersey, to discuss how residents can demonstrate leadership during residency and gain confidence in their ability to lead others.
Dr. Daniel draws on his experience as a military officer and residency director to illustrate the importance of adapting your managerial style to each team member rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach; the merits of democratic leadership; and why it's essential for leaders to know how and when to delegate. He also reveals which key traits he looks for in a chief resident, and what residents can do to prepare themselves for increasing levels of responsibility and accountability as they move through training and into practice.
Guest: Joseph N. Daniel, DO, FAAOS, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University; Residency Program Director of Orthopaedic surgery, Jefferson Health New Jersey; foot and ankle surgeon at Rothman Orthopaedic Institute
Host: Rex Lutz, DO, AAOS Resident Assembly Executive Committee Chair
