Life in Guruve is slowly resuming, but the scars remain. In this in-depth interview, Guruve Rural District Council Ward 3 councillor Makomborero Mutirori speaks candidly about the aftermath of the arrest of alleged serial killer Anymore Zvitsva and what it has meant for a community that lived in fear for months.
Mutirori traces how Zvitsva is now being linked to murder cases stretching back to 2023, describes claims of a long history of crime within his family, and recounts the tense festive season when killings escalated and daily life all but shut down. He also details the rescue of a teenage girl who was allegedly kidnapped and abused in the mountains and reflects on the unity shown by villagers as they worked alongside security forces.
This is a rare account from the heart of Guruve, capturing anger, relief, grief and unanswered questions, as residents begin to rebuild life after January 3, the day the man they feared was finally arrested.
