Took a quick trip to the low desert of Borrego Springs in Northeastern San Diego County on 28 April, 2025. Borrego Springs is at the western edge of the Sonoran Desert ecoregion. The thorny and semi-succulent Ocotillo (Fouquieria splendens) were in bloom, providing nectar, insects, and perching for the birds.
Birds photographed for this video include: Black-throated Sparrow, Black-headed Grosbeak, Nashville Warbler, Lazuli Bunting, Green-tailed Towhee and Loggerhead Shrike. Reptiles include: Western Side-Blotched Lizard and Chuckwalla. Chuckwallas are the second largest (native) lizard (largest is the Gila monster) in the United States.
