Shaping Fairings for an aircraft are difficult to achieve in the drawing (CAD)
especially if you want to stick to the proper exact profiles you was intended to planning.
OpenVSP offers you several ways to do such a thing, the stack being the ultimate stuff
to achieve the latest level of control.
Here we explore different ways to achieve fairing, from the simplest to the most advanced
Timestamps:
00:00 Showing first in Fusion 360 the result of an OpenVSP import that I need to redo
01:56 Come back to OpenVSP to watch how a fairing is embedded in a fuselage as one body among others bodies (OpenVSP combines all during the export)
02:53 Concept of stack in OpenVSP, why using a stack? Tab skinning parameters to adjust the stack (the fairing) you want.
07:54 shaping the aerodynamic profiles that are part of the stack to keep the exact thickness at leading of the fairing I want.
09:28 to have more control we need to make a little wing that allows us to refine the profile(s), something not possible in the stack
11:50 How to modify the profile and export it as a new DAT file
17:19 Retrieving the modified profile(s) to re-inject it (them) in the stack
18:28 Ultimate stage to shape your fairing between the profile that matches your wing at the root and the fuselage
19:56 for this we need to "edit curve" of the profile of the central section (section 0)
20:12 you can first modify the height of the profile, that the fastest way, but maybe that's not enough or it has some counter-effects
21:35 the full manual method but modifying the points, graphically or in the "control points" sheet
24:40 little summary
