Lotus concept lineup (photos) - In a major reboot, Lotus will completely revamp its model lineup between now and 2015, increasing power and performance, and adding larger cars to compete against stalwarts such as Ferrari and Aston Martin. Lotus showed off its new model lineup as concept cars at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

British car manufacturer Lotus has launched its first fully electric zero-emission hypercar, the Lotus Evija, which claims to be the most powerful series production road car ever built. Lotus gave a teaser preview of the car earlier this year at Auto Shanghai 2019, where it announced the launch of Evija as the first all-electric supercar created by a British manufacturer.

Electric vehicles tend to be heavy. Lotus’ cars have historically been light. The British brand has already announced it won’t produce another internal combustion-powered car after the new Emira. As you can imagine, this poses a bit of a conundrum, especially as Lotus is working on an all-electric spiritual successor to the Elise. It’s tentatively called the Type 135, and it’s due out in 2026.

Lotus will take on the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S Plaid, and Lucid Air Sapphire with its own high-performance electric sedan. Due sometime next year as a 2025 model, the Lotus Emeya is the automaker's second EV, following the Eletre SUV. It's also latest in a set of premium, flagship sedans or fastbacks that emphasize performance, perhaps at the expense of efficiency.

Lotus just made a huge splash today by unveiling the Eletre, an all-electric "hyper-SUV" formerly known just by its codename: Type 132. Sports car brands unveiling SUVs isn't as shocking now as it used to be, but this is still rather out of the ordinary. The Eletre is Lotus' first five-door production car, its first model that isn't a sports car, its first lifestyle EV, and the most "connected" Lotus ever.

Lotus expects to end 2024 having built 12,000 vehicles, a significant 78% drop from its original plan of building 55,500 vehicles this year. The firm is laying the blame firmly on new tariffs imposed on EVs built in China.
