In this video, we explore some of the largest stars ever discovered in the universe — cosmic giants so vast that entire planetary systems could fit inside them.

Our journey begins with the Sun, the star at the center of our Solar System. Although it feels unimaginably large from Earth, the Sun is actually considered an average star compared to some of the true monsters of the cosmos.

As stars evolve, they can expand dramatically, transforming into red giants, supergiants, and even hypergiants. Some of these stellar giants grow to sizes hundreds or even thousands of times larger than the Sun.

We’ll explore famous examples such as Betelgeuse, one of the brightest stars in the night sky and a massive red supergiant in the Orion constellation.

Then we move on to even larger cosmic titans like UY Scuti, one of the biggest stars ever measured, with a radius estimated to be around 1,700 times larger than the Sun.

But the scale doesn’t stop there.

Astronomers have also identified Stephenson 2-18, a colossal hypergiant star that may be among the largest known stars in the Milky Way galaxy. If placed at the center of our Solar System, its outer layers could extend beyond the orbit of Saturn.
