Hutton is often considered part of Hutton Cranswick which is located just down the road, however, the individual parts of the village are still often referred to by their separate names and both maintain their individual character. The expansion of the villages over the years merged them together to form Hutton Cranswick but actually it is comprised of two villages, Hutton to the north, and Cranswick to the south.

Less than a mile from Hutton are the remnants of Howe Hill Bronze Age round barrow. The 23 m diameter mound was excavated in 1892. Flint articles were found, and evidence of previous disturbance of the site, including burnt bones and a food vessel indicating a burial site. The mound later might have been used as a moot hill local meeting place.

Hutton Mill which can be seen from Hutton Road was once a wind-powered corn mill. Now without its sails the mill acts as a reminder of a once industrious and thriving community.

The Church of St Peter’s has Norman fragment in the South doorway as well as early English arcades, a perpendicular tower and Victorian windows. There are six church bells in all which ring out loud and crystal clear.

The Old Vicarage next to the Church was built in 1874 and is a handsome brick building in the Gothic style which is now privately owned after a new vicarage was built in 1967 with in its grounds.
