Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a boy named Tích Chu. He lived with his grandmother because his parents were gone. His grandmother loved him very much. She worked hard every day so Tích Chu could play and be happy.

But Tích Chu did not take care of his grandmother. He only liked to play with his friends. He ran in the fields, played games, and flew kites. He never helped his grandmother.

One day, his grandmother became very sick and very thirsty. She lay in bed and called,
“Tích Chu, please bring me some water.”

She called again and again, but Tích Chu did not hear her. He was busy playing with his friends and laughing.

Because she was too thirsty and too sad, the grandmother magically turned into a little blue bird and flew away to look for water.

Later, Tích Chu came home and could not find his grandmother. He saw a blue bird and cried,
“Grandma, where are you?”

The bird said,
“I was too thirsty. I turned into a bird to find water.”

Then the bird flew into the forest.

Tích Chu felt very sorry. He ran after the bird, crying. He ran over fields and through bushes. His legs hurt, but he did not stop.

The bird landed in a tall tree. Tích Chu cried,
“Grandma, I am sorry. Please come back!”

Suddenly, a kind Fairy appeared. She said,
“If you want your grandmother back, you must bring water from the Fairy Spring. It is far away and hard to reach.”

Tích Chu nodded and began his journey. He climbed rocks and crossed rivers. He was tired, but he kept going.

At last, he found the Fairy Spring. The water was clear and bright. He filled his small jar and ran back.

He found the blue bird and said,
“Grandma, here is the magic water. Please drink!”

The bird drank the water. Then—magic happened! The bird turned back into his grandmother.

Tích Chu hugged her and said,
“I am sorry, Grandma. I will help you and stay with you.”

His grandmother smiled and hugged him.

From that day on, Tích Chu changed. He helped every day and still had time to play. He always came home to be with his grandmother.

They lived happily together, and Tích Chu learned that loving your family is the most important thing of all.
