Hello & Welcome to GT Rail Fan Productions!
On August 18th, 2021, @chendersonrailproductions704, The Big Banana Railfan, & Kurtis Hooey set out for our Iowa Adventure. We would make our first stop in Centralia, IL to see Illinois Central #2500. We would then move over to the National Museum of Transportation in St. Louis. We would tour that for a few hours and then move to Burlington IA, where CB&Q #3003 sits in front of the Amtrak Station. We would also see an old ex SP SD9 sitting in the yard and the Amtrak California Zephyr arriving and departing as well. After that, we would continue our trek to Cedar Rapids IA for the next day of chasing the deadhead/ferry move of Iowa Interstate #6988 pulling a revenue freight train. (This part of the Iowa Adventure will eventually be uploaded).
On August 19th, 2021, we would be station in Kellogg, IA, and would chase the 6988 to Iowa Interstate's Railroad Yard+Shops in South Amana, IA. They would service and prepare the engine their for the next day's excursion. Then on the 20th, they would deadhead/ferry with the passenger consist to Oxford, IA, where there would be 5 excursions for the day heading eastward towards Coralville, IA. After the excursions the diesel would tow the consist and 6988 back to South Amana for more servicing and prepping for the deadhead/ferry move to Wilton IA, for their 3 excursions on the 21st. We would await for the departure of the ferry/deadhead move from South Amana, IA for Wilton the next morning. The crisp cold morning provided for some nice steam/smoke from the locomotive in both South Amana & Homestead. We would chase all the way to Wilton, and would chase the 4 excursions headed eastward towards Stockton IA.
Sadly due to other personal commitments of a couple along for the trip, we had to end the trip early as we were planning to chase the deadhead/ferry freight move back to Newton. Thanks to the Iowa Interstate Railroad, Central States Steam Preservation Association, and both the Oxford & Wilton Fire Departments for putting in the time and dedication to run these events and also being extremely friendly and putting on a show with the 6988. Also a big thanks to @chendersonrailproductions704 for introducing me to this steam locomotive and actually getting me out to see it as well! It was definitely one of the best steam experiences I have ever had, and definitely was a memorable trip with everybody!
Hope you all enjoy the video! Make sure to like and leave a comment!
We also ran into Dossett Yard Productions & @NYTrainzchaser while we were there as well!
