When you appear before the court SHORTLY after having an arrest warrant issues, you are more likely to be granted a reasonable bond or a personal recognizance bond. In either of these situations, you or your family will likely be able to post your bond to allow you to be free, while working to defend your case.



When you fail to answer criminal charges or an arrest warrant for a long period of time, it may result in the court deeming you a flight risk and your bond may be denied, denied until court, or set at such a high amount that you will not be able to post your bond. It is important to show the court you are taking the matter seriously and that you are not a flight risk, if you want to remain out of custody while your criminal case is pending.



The second major factor considered in bond determinations is whether or not you are a danger to the community. Although, it is difficult to explain to the court that you do not pose a danger in many cases, appearing before the court early by self-surrender or a bondsman increases the likelihood your criminal defense attorney will be able to convince the judge that you are not a danger to the community and should be allowed to appear on your criminal case out of custody with a bond.
