Vintage Boss DSD-3, Digital Sampler & Delay, 1986 Long Chip, Trigger In, demo / review / tutorial.

Описание: Here’s a review of one of the most rarest Digital Delays out there.
The Boss Dsd-3 is the 4th compact digital delay pedal by Boss that uses the infamous Long Chip taken from the Roland SDE 3000 studio rack delay.
The First Two settings on this pedal are
300ms, and 800ms max delay time ,
With level feedback and D. time knobs identical to a boss DD-2/DD-3.
Nothing new.
The last two of the settings is the Record / Play
And play only*

Record play let’s you use the pedal like a delay with a max D Time of 800ms but only while holding down the bypass switch.
You have to act fast to know that what ever the last feed back regeneration you had is gonna be the sample.
Quickly let go of the bypass switch and turn the pedal switch knob on the top right hand side to Play only*
Now whenever you step on the switch you can recall the sample you made.
Kind of like a momentary switch looper of 800ms max.
But the cool thing is changing the D Time while triggering the sample by holding down the switch.
This will change the speed and the over all pitch.

Also as you’ll notice unlike the boss DD-2 there is no direct out for wet and dry mixing
In its place is a TRIGGER in.
By plugging in a audio signal of say a drum machine or keyboard. Will trigger the sample to the beat of the trigger letting you use your recorded sample without having to tap Dance on your pedals..

I found this trigger in also worked with the control voltage of the Helix Floor. But I unfortunately couldn’t get the CV to work by a sequence. But for those who are wondering CV out into the Trigger in does work. And is less crude of a sample compared to the pedal being triggered by just audio. Which in this pedal’s case needs to be clear and loud audio.
Also while the sample is being triggered by either a drum machine or keyboard you can slow and speed up / adjust the pitch of the sample with the D.Time which will give you a less stuttered sample.

The fullest extent of the trigger in is my guess to be triggered by a clock, therefor this delay time can be set and changed just as accurately as a digital delay with tap tempo/notation values.

This was a fun pedal to have
Amazing delays that sound clear crisp and articulate, while being warm and subtle to the mix of guitar and delay.
The feedback regeneration would be less likely to self oscillate the same way a boss DD2/DD3 does.
But I found that was more useful.
