I took some Drone footage recently of Happisburgh Lighthouse and Coast and composed and recorded some music for it.
During the past 20 years, 34 cliff-top houses in Happisburgh have been swallowed up as the sea advanced by 75 metres; it is predicted that another 100 metres will be eaten away in the next 20 years.
The cliffs erode at an estimated rate of three metres a year, and this has meant that the lighthouse has got 23m closer to the edge of the cliffs in the last few years. If the same rate of erosion continues, it's thought that Happisburgh will only exist for no more than 80 years before it falls completely into the sea.
The British government has now decided to stop investing in the seawall off the coast of Happisburgh. Apparently the village is sparsely populated and the farmland and housing are not valuable enough to protect.
