Early in the morning, Hiền Nương went up the hill to cut sugarcane while dew still clung to the leaves. She patiently cut each stalk until her basket was full. Hiền Nương broke off a piece to taste; the cool sweetness spread through her mouth and pleased her greatly. After that, she took the sugarcane to the market to sell, then returned home to water her vegetable garden. In the afternoon, Văn Cương came to visit, and the two chatted happily about their work and daily life. Before leaving, Văn Cương invited Hiền Nương to go out with him the next day. After a brief hesitation, she smiled and agreed, promising to meet again the following day.
