Date: Aug 01, 2019
Trailhead: South Mineral Campground (near Silverton - 4 miles out on an off-road - I took my 2WD sedan and it just did fine) - Trailhead had 30-40 parking spaces; on a Thursday 50% full at 4pm).
Hike: Trailhead - camped just below lower Ice lake - Island lake - Saddle between Ulysses S Grand Peak and V2 Vermillion Peak (37.822907, -107.799594) - Ice Lake - back to the trailhead
Tips
Afternoon thundershowers are common - so plan accordingly
There multiple stream crossings - Towards the top of the trail, there are many of them knee-deep.
If you get up till Ice lake, must-do island lake - for a short detour, it's worth it - ration an additional 1 hour for this.
If it's clouded over the lakes, wait for the sun to show up - it's worth it.
