In this PART 6, I clarify how you can provide oral fluency practice of grammar, also called freer oral practice.
Free practice is a stage in a lesson where learners produce language using the target content freely. In this stage we facilitate students use the new grammar they’ve studied in life-like situations, and the focus is on fluency rather than accuracy.
Tips for providing controlled practice of grammar:
• Prepare your final freer activity before any other.
• Facilitate the use of the grammar you have taught.
• Give students preparation time for speaking.
• Monitor the activity.
• Give students feedback on language and content
