I started working in a small merchant bank and ended up in the foreign exchange department and there I saw people making prices using a telex machine and having to develop a feel for prices. And I suddenly discovered the delight of quantifying fair value and what is good value at any one moment - I also liked the fact of going to work without having a briefcase. I just wanted to go and get a feel for the markets. I became a chartist because it was the only way to understand the market methodology - it provided a way to study and analyse the markets.
