As featured in the popular Jane Russell film "Underwater," "Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White" ended up as 1955's most popular instrumental hit thanks to a dynamic performance by "King Of The Mambo" Perez Prado. The second biggest instrumental of that year was "Autumn Leaves," and, coincidentally, both were based on French melodies that were already several years old. Five years before Jimmy Dorsey was to take a final bow with his deathbed hit of "So Rare," he recorded this arrangement of the then-new "Cherry Pink." As with his 40s hits of "Green Eyes," "Tangerine," "Yours," and "Besame Mucho," the presentation begins with the relaxed male vocal treatment, followed by a tempo-changing instrumental segment leading into the more swinging female voice finale.
LP audio, originally issued on 78rpm & 45rpm Columbia 39526 - Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White (David-Louiguy) by Jimmy Dorsey & His Orchestra, vocals by Pat O'Connor and Sandy Evans .
