Potholing in Iowa

Описание: When it comes underground work, some things are under that dirt that can suddenly create a bad day. Unfortunately, it’s not often that I get to see one of these machines being used to minimize the risk.

The team below is potholing. They are using pressurized water and the vac to excavate around underground electrical lines for water line installation. Several years of safety observations has shown me many overconfident operators who keep excavating with the track hoe until they “believe” that they are close to where power lines, fiber optics, sewer, etc. are. That overconfidence has led to countless problems. Potholing provides a great solution for not only protecting the lives of employees but avoiding the cost of utility strikes.

I found this interesting. This organization found other uses for the potholing equipment. It is handy for cleaning corrosion away from lines and connections in meter pits. Plus, it is handy for cleaning the shop’s pit.
