In this video I explore radioactive items that can be bought freely and are considered safe (when following appropriate risk assessments) to use in physics teaching in schools. I gave myself a budget of £50 and tested the different items bought using a GM tube and counter as well as an @RadiaCode Radiacode 110 detector which can produce a gamma spectrum which allows you to identify which radioactive isotope is responsible for the radiation being emitted. Thank you to @RadiaCode for sending me the device to use in the video.
If you are going to use radioactive sources of any kind make sure you are up to date with the recommended safe procedures and risk assessments. See e.g @CLEAPSS https://science.cleapss.org.uk/Resour... for some useful information

Finally thanks to the Ogden Trust for my senior teacher fellowship which gave me the time needed to produce the video of this demonstration. You can find out more about the Ogden Trust here: https://www.ogdentrust.com/
