"We were just getting by, but now we are barely living. Our living conditions in Palestinian camps in Lebanon, they don't make you cry, they kill. Our people are dying. I haven't tasted meat in three years. I used to buy an ounce but now how will I buy an ounce when the kilogram costs 300,000 ($7.5) or 400,000 ($10) Lebanese pounds."

"I want to emigrate, I want out. Nobody can talk to me about patriotism or Palestine. I love Palestine so much that I named my daughter Palestine. So no one can talk to me about Palestine. I want to travel, I want to save myself. I can't live in Lebanon anymore, not at all, not at all."

"My youngest daughter three-four months ago had medical treatment and the bill is still unpaid. Her medicine costs 800,000 pounds (roughly $20) and I cannot afford to buy it for her. My son has a disability in his back and I also cannot buy his medication. I used to have a job but I was laid off. Life is very, very difficult when it comes to food, drinks, everything else. Everything from food to drinks, medicine and water, just about everything."

"The figures are alarming. The situation is indeed catastrophic, if we may say, as we entitled the statement, the refugees have hit rock bottom in Lebanon. The poverty rates are 93% among refugees in Lebanon, so almost universal poverty. The unemployment rate is very, very high. People are on the brink of despair and they have nothing to lose anymore. UNRWA is providing services, a lot of assistance, as much as we can. But with all the assistance that we're giving we're barely able to meet not even the most basic needs of the Palestine refugees in Lebanon."

"Yes, we know that the numbers have risen. And this in itself, again, illustrates the level of hopelessness and despair that the Palestine refugees are suffering from in Lebanon. They have nothing to lose anymore. They are taking huge risks to their lives and to the life of their families. No one, no one would accept to throw himself and his family in the sea if they had other options. They are looking for a dignified life that unfortunately, with the meltdown in Lebanon, is not available anymore."
