MV Loch Frisa- Mull’s Newest Ship!

Описание: It was a day out in Oban planned to take a trip on the newest member of the Calmac fleet the MV Loch Frisa. The Loch Frisa had been purchased by CMAL for use on Calmac's Oban to Craignure route in place of the MV Coruisk who would make her way back up to Mallaig to serve on Skye. Having been built in 2014 under the name MV Utne she served for Norwegian ferry company Norled before being purchased by CMAL in 2021 as Norled wanted to convert their fleet into battery operated ships.

After some modifications at Leith and a rebranding the Loch Frisa made her way to Craignure where she ran trials for a few weeks before entering service alongside the Isle of Mull and Coruisk before eventually taking over from the Coruisk and officially taking over on Monday the 11th of July 2022.

With a capacity of 195 passengers and around 40 cars the Loch Frisa is smaller than the Coruisk however can operate more sailings in a day by using multiple crews allowing the day to be prolonged.

Having arrived at Oban the Loch Frisa arrived in the less commonly used berth for Mull services due to work taking place on the usual berth and after walking onto the vessel via the car deck the vehicles drove on and we departed into Oban Bay. We slowed quite quickly though as the Isle of Mull was arriving into Oban Bay so after giving way to her we ventured out of the bay passing the MV Clansman who was inbound from Coll and Tiree. After a nice calm crossing we arrived in Craignure and with time ashore I had a wander around Craignure before getting back on board and heading back to Oban passing once again the MV Clansman on her way back to Coll and Tiree and the MV Isle of Mull on her way to Craignure. After reaching Oban Bay the MV Hebridean Isles was getting ready to depart on one of her twice weekly sailings to Kennacraig via Colonsay and Islay and after berthing I disembarked having enjoyed my time on Calmac's latest toy!
