He was found guilty of the 2009 disappearance and murder of Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington and the 2014 disappearance and murder of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham. Additionally, DNA connected him to a 2005 assault case in Fairfax, Virginia, where the victim survived. These events reveal a troubling pattern of harmful behavior over multiple years, leading authorities to suspect he may have been involved in other similar incidents. In 2016, Matthew was sentenced to four consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole.
